What started as a pilot project in 2022 is today one of the best-known nationwide campaigns in Switzerland concerning Breast cancer screening. Behind PINK CUBE are gynecologists, patient advocacy groups, scientists, and politicians with a common goal – and they are all working together. During the 2025 Roadshow, five women received cancer diagnoses and immediate treatments were initiated. We are joining our client PINK CUBE's call and are fortunate to be able to offer our support to the initiative. Funds are still needed for the 2026 Roadshow to travel through eleven cantons – and this is exactly where you come in.

What's behind PINK CUBE Test Your Breast

Initiated by MSD Merck Sharp & Dohme, under the patronage of EUROPA DONNA Switzerland and the Swiss Cancer League: PINK CUBE is a Multi-Stakeholder-Initiative that brings together medical expertise, patient advocacy groups, science, and politics. At its core is a mobile, brightly pink consultation room that will travel through cantons without organized care from May to October. Mammography screeningThe program tours. The goal: to bring information where structures are lacking – and to advocate politically for their widespread introduction.

The on-site offering is accessible and concrete. In the Cube, gynecologists are available for free clinical breast exams, explain risk factors, and demonstrate how to properly perform a breast self-exam. Outside, representatives from the Cancer League and EUROPA DONNA Switzerland provide information about support services and answer questions about breast cancer and early detection. Visitors can experience what a lump feels like on a palpation model. No bureaucracy, no costs.

The numbers on breast cancer

With around 6,800 new diagnoses per year, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Switzerland, according to the Cancer League. The chances of survival and the burden of therapies depend crucially on the stage at which the tumor is detected – those treated early have better chances of recovery and often undergo less invasive procedures.

Compounding the problem is the patchwork of provisions: While 15 cantons already offer organized mammography screening programs exempt from deductibles, eleven cantons have so far lacked corresponding structures. The Roadshow 2025 toured precisely through these cantons. How Euronews In a European comparison, Switzerland still has a lot of catching up to do with other countries in systematic screening – PINK CUBE is working on it.

What the Roadshow 2025 achieved

During 559 breast examinations as part of the PINK CUBE Roadshow 2025, abnormal findings were detected in 32 individuals. In five confirmed cases, this directly led to a cancer diagnosis and immediate treatment. Particularly impressive: one of the women had no palpable findings and followed the doctor's recommendation for a mammogram – where an early form of breast cancer was diagnosed.

What visitors can expect at the PINK CUBE:

  • Free breast self-examination by gynecologists
  • Information on risk factors and possible signs of breast cancer
  • Guide to Self-Examination and Introduction to BREAST EXAM App
  • Information about the mammography procedure and the cantonal screening program

Politically, PINK CUBE has also gained momentum since 2022. Aargau will introduce an organized screening program starting in July 2026, Basel-Landschaft kicked off early 2026, and Lucerne, Glarus, Schaffhausen, Uri, and Zug have already decided to implement it. Political initiatives are underway in Nidwalden, Obwalden, Schwyz, and Zurich. Behind these developments are not coincidences, but years of advocacy and persuasion – in village squares and in front of government buildings alike.
