The higher a website ranks in these results lists, the so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/csw.agency\/en\/glossar\/google-serps\/\">SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages)<\/a>, the better your ranking will be. The primary goal of search engine optimization is to place a website in the top positions on the first page of results in order to achieve maximum visibility and <a href=\"https:\/\/csw.agency\/en\/glossar\/organic-traffic\/\">organic traffic<\/a> to generate.<\/p>\n<h2>How rankings work<\/h2>\n<p>Search engines such as Google use complex algorithms to rank websites. <a href=\"https:\/\/csw.agency\/en\/glossar\/crawling\/\">crawl<\/a>, evaluate their content and, based on hundreds of <a href=\"https:\/\/csw.agency\/en\/glossar\/ranking-factor\/\">Ranking factors<\/a> indexing. These algorithms analyze the relevance of a website for a search query as well as its quality and user-friendliness. The main goal is to provide the user with the best possible, most useful and most relevant information. The decisive signals for the evaluation include the importance of the search query, the relevance and quality of the content, the user-friendliness of the page (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/csw.agency\/en\/glossar\/page-speed\/\">Loading time<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/csw.agency\/en\/glossar\/mobile-optimization\/\">Mobile friendliness<\/a>), the expertise of the sources and the user's location and preferences. The weighting of these factors varies depending on the type of search query.<\/p>\n<h2>The importance of a high ranking<\/h2>\n<p>A high ranking is crucial for the online success of a website. It leads to a significantly higher click-through rate (CTR), generates more organic traffic and therefore increases the likelihood of reaching potential customers and realizing business goals. Studies show that the majority of clicks are on the first organic search results. A position on the first search results page is therefore essential, as user attention decreases rapidly with each subsequent position and websites on subsequent pages are hardly noticed.
